Manchester City fans have been mocked for their subdued celebrations after their first goal against Red Bull Leipzig in the Champions League.

On Tuesday, after drawing the first leg 1-1, City arrived at the Etihad Stadium looking to get the job done and secure a place in the last eight.

Erling Haaland stepped up and scored five whilst goals from Ilkay Gundogan and Kevin De Bruyne sealed a huge 7-0 win for Pep Guardiola’s side.

It was a breathtaking performance from City as they showed their intent to finally get their hands on the elusive Champions League trophy.

However, a video showing City fans celebrating the team’s first goal of the night has gone viral for the wrong reasons.

Fans were quick to react on social media.

One said: “They must have 20 - 30% tourist fans now. Terrible club.”

Another tweeted: “City probably paying random people off the street to fill the stadium.”

A third added: “That’s what champions league games are like unfortunately, a solid 1/3 of the stadium is tourists for champion league games.”

Someone else wrote: “Unbelievable limbs.”

Whilst a fifth commented: “Fully convinced they have someone go around the city centre during the day before a game handing out tickets to random people.”

This is not the first time City fans have been mocked for their subdued celebrations, having been trolled earlier on in the season during a Premier League match.

On the back of their successful passage to the last eight of the Champions League, City boss Guardiola praised Haaland, he said: “Five goals….

“The problem for this guy is if he doesn't score two or three goals he will be criticised.”

The champions of England will find out their next opponents in the Champions League as the draw is due to take place on Friday.

Up next for City will be this weekend’s FA Cup clash against Burnley, managed by former captain Vincent Kompany.
