Manchester City players have been criticised by fans on social media after footage showing the team’s lacklustre title-winning celebrations was aired.

Pep Guardiola’s side secured their third successive Premier League title on Saturday after Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.

It meant yesterday’s 1-0 win over Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium was more of a victory lap, with nothing riding on the game as City knew they had already wrapped up the league.

Julian Alvarez scored the only goal of the game in the 12th minute, slotting the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga and burying it into the far corner after a Cole Palmer pass.

It continues City's quest to win an historic treble, with an FA Cup final against Manchester United and a Champions League final against Inter Milan still to follow Guardiola and his men.

Immediately following the match, the team took to the dressing room to ‘celebrate’ their Premier League victory, and fans across social media weren’t too impressed.

Behind-the-scenes footage was aired by Sky Sports, and it saw the likes of Erling Haaland, Alvarez, Phil Foden and Jack Grealish pumping their fists in the air and casually chatting in the changing room.

Viewers have been quick to jump on Twitter and call out the ‘dead’ atmosphere, despite winning the coveted trophy for the ninth time.

One Twitter user wrote: “Seen more atmosphere at a funeral”.

A budding young footballer joked: “Me and my friends are louder during football at lunchtime.”

Another said: “It (sic) actually makes me so uncomfortable watching this it feels so awkward.”

However, many football fans were quick to defend their team's somewhat lacklustre celebrations.

One tweeted: “It [the title] was won before the game, they are relaxed. Maybe if we won it we’d see scenes instead.”

A City fan also stated: “It just looks dead because when other teams win trophies it’s usually the end of their season. Not for us.”

A third wrote: “To be (sic) fair these lot won it so much recently. They don’t care anymore.”

Despite City being declared this season’s winners, they still have two league games left to play.

They face Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night before heading over to the Gtech Community Stadium for a final showdown against Thomas Frank’s Brentford side next weekend.
