The possible sanctions Man City could face include EXPULSION from the league and stripping of titles

Manchester City could be in big trouble after they allegedly breached financial rules.

The possible ramifications Manchester City could face as a result of the alleged breaches include expulsion from the Premier League and stripping of titles.

Man City have been charged by the Premier League with 'numerous breaches' of financial rules following a four-year investigation.

The Blues have allegedly breached financial rules over a period of nine seasons. They are alleged to have not provided accurate financial information.

From the club's revenue to sponsorship revenue and operating costs, among other financial information.

If Man City are found guilty, then a range of sanctions are possible. Sanctions include points deduction, replaying of league matches, order compensation, cancel or refuse registration of players, conditional punishment, huge fines, transfer bans and stripping of titles, according to Sky Sports and Nick Harris.

In 2020, Man City had a two-year ban from European club competitions overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), after UEFA had ruled that the club committed 'serious breaches' of Financial Fair Play regulations between 2012 and 2016.

However, under Premier League rules, the club will NOT be able to appeal any sanction to CAS as it comes under a different jurisdiction.

Man City, though, intend to 'robustly' defend themselves against the Premier League charges, according to The Daily Mail.

They released a punchy statement following the news of the alleged breaches, stating that they were 'surprised' by the Premier League ruling.

"Manchester City FC is surprised by the issuing of these alleged breaches of the Premier League Rules, particularly given the extensive engagement and vast amount of detailed materials that the EPL has been provided with," the statement reads.

"The Club welcomes the review of this matter by an independent Commission, to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of its position.

"As such we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all."

Man City won their sixth Premier League title last season since the Abu Dhabi United Group takeover in 2008.

But it could be taken away from them if they're found guilty of breaching financial rules.
