FA launch investigation into Arsenal fans' behaviour in Man City defeat

FA launch investigation into Arsenal fans' behaviour in Man City defeat

The supporters involved are expected to be punished.

The Football Association have opened an investigation after fans threw objects at Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne during Wednesday’s heated Premier League clash against Arsenal.

De Bruyne played a key role in his side's 3-1 victory at the Emirates, but it wasn't just his football that made the headlines.

The Belgium international broke the deadlock in the first half, latching on to Takehiro Tomiyasu's loose back pass and audaciously chipping Aaron Ramsdale, who could only watch as it bounced into the back of the net.

But the 31-year-old wasn't finished there, turning up in the 18-yard-box to find Erling Haaland who netted his side's third goal of the evening.

Shortly afterwards, De Bruyne was substituted for Kalvin Phillips with just a few minutes left on the clock.

As he made his way towards the dugout, the midfielder appeared to rile up supporters, inciting certain individuals to unnecessarily throw bottles and cups and cups in his direction, which he was fortunately able to avoid.

Arsenal 'under investigation'

Following the game, the FA announced that Arsenal will now be the subject of an investigation relating to the throwing of objects, while the Gunners will also review footage of the incident.

A statement from Arsenal read: “We are studying CCTV and if we are able to identify the culprits they will be subject to strict sanctions. This is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

Meanwhile, De Bruyne took to Instagram, and appeared to make light of the situation, posting a picture of a cup landing near him with the caption: “Beer anyone?”

The former Chelsea player was amongst all the action at the Emirates, also engaging in a scuffle with Gunners boss Mikel Arteta.

The Arsenal boss appeared to prevent De Bruyne from gathering the ball quickly for a throw-in, which prompted the Belgium international to shove him on the touchline.

Manchester City's win means that they go top of the Premier League for the first time since November 5. However, Arsenal have a game in hand against Aston Villa, as they look to reclaim top spot.
