Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should sign midfielders N'Golo Kante and Youri Tielemans this summer, according to former Reds defender Glen Johnson.

Kante and Tielemans, who currently play for Chelsea and Leicester, are both out of contract in the summer, with no indication that either player will renew.

Kante has been out of action since August, having had surgery on a hamstring injury in October. He has recently returned to training, although has not yet been involved with the rest of the squad as he continues his recovery.

Football.london report that Chelsea are confident that the Frenchman will sign a new contract, with positive talks already taking place. As one of the division's best midfielders since his arrival at Leicester in 2015, the Blues will no doubt be keen to keep Kante at the club.

However, although CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has claimed that the player's 'priority' is to stay at Stamford Bridge, he has had alleged interest from both Arsenal and Atletico Madrid.

As for Tielemans, he is yet to extend his contract at the King Power Stadium, and appears likely to leave the club. TeamTalk claim that Arsenal are the 'overwhelming favourites' to sign the 25-year-old technically gifted midfielder.

But Johnson, who played for Liverpool between 2009 and 2015, wants Klopp to swoop in and sign both players to solve the side's current midfield problems, with the pair's experience and ability to perform vital roles in midfield potentially able to transform the Reds side.

Liverpool boss Klopp told to sign PL stars

Speaking to Betfred (via Daily Express), the former England defender explained: "If N'Golo Kante is available on a free transfer, then that's something you need to consider seriously.

"The guy wears his heart on his sleeve and he has the energy to perform how Jurgen Klopp expects his players to perform. If Liverpool can sign him on a free then blimey, you need to put your hat in the ring.

"I'd say they need to sign two or three midfielders in the summer. Once they sign one or two midfielders, then they're probably going to have to sell some others too. They'll need six midfielders in their squad going forward, at least. And if you can sign someone like Youri Tielemans on a free then you have to seriously consider pursuing a move.

"If we're sitting here in the summer and Liverpool have signed N'Golo Kante and Youri Tielemans for free, then that's bloody good business. They'll then have plenty of money left to pursue a big deal elsewhere."
