Liverpool Targeting Star Midfielder, But Face Competition From Man United And Chelsea

Liverpool are targeting £30 million PSV midfielder Ibrahim Sangare, as Jürgen Klopp is seeking to strengthen his ageing engine room this summer.

According to Sky Sports, the Merseyside club are one of four Premier League sides tracking the Ivory Coast international. The 24-year-old is said to be very interested in making the switch to the English top-flight, with Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle also interested in acquiring his services.

Sangare would be a useful addition to the Liverpool squad given his capacity to play both as a holding midfielder and a little more advanced. He’d alleviate some of the pressure on Fabinho to play week in, week out, and provide competition for the likes of Thiago, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Naby Keita.

A number of Liverpool midfielders have also been linked with moves away from the club, so the onus is on Jürgen Klopp to take a look at bringing in some fresh faces. Naby Keita has been linked with a move to PSG, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could be on his way to Manchester United. Takumi Minamino, also capable of doing a job in midfield, is believed to be on his way out too.

Sangare isn’t the only midfielder Liverpool have shown an interest in this summer. The Reds were heavily interested in Aurelien Tchouameni before Real Madrid swooped in. Nicolo Barella, Jude Bellingham, and Gavi have also been touted as players of interest for the Reds.

One would suspect the pursuit of Sangare will depend upon outgoings. He wouldn’t be the superstar midfield addition Liverpool are looking to make this summer, but he’d add depth if those players linked with a move away from the FA Cup champions are to depart.

However, Liverpool’s attention at the moment is fixated upon Benfica’s Darwin Nuñez. It would appear his switch to the Premier League is imminent, with Liverpool favourites to capture his signature despite interest from Barcelona. A move for Barcelona’s Gavi is also growing increasingly likely.
