Liverpool are prepared to pay Barcelona midfielder Gavi £7.6m per year if he joins Anfield this summer, the equivalent of £147,000 per week, according to The Express.

Following both Champions League and Premier League heartbreak, the Reds are set to be active in this summer’s transfer market and are looking to achieve an 'ultimate rebuild'.

Barcelona wonderkid Gavi, who made 47 appearances this season for the Catalan club this season, could be the perfect signing.

A La Masia graduate, he is one of Europe’s top prospects, with his elegant style reminiscent of the greats who came before him at Barcelona. At just 17, the Spaniard is already being compared to the likes of Xavi and Iniesta.

Naby Keita’s potential departure has Liverpool in the market for some new central midfielders, and Gavi is seemingly the number one target.

Barcelona are desperate for Gavi to remain at the club, and recently initiated talks over a new contract in order to keep him. Interestingly, his current deal is said to include a release clause of just £42.5m, which Liverpool would not struggle to pay.

It’s too early to tell whether Liverpool will land the youngster, but whatever happens, this will be a fascinating chapter of this summer’s window, with this saga expected to go on for some weeks.
