Liverpool and Chelsea 'offered' star midfielder labelled 'best in the world'

Liverpool and Chelsea may have a massive opportunity to sign one of the most promising players in the world this summer.

Despite a relatively slow start due to the World Cup, the 2026 summer transfer window has been nothing if not dramatic, with several big signings made across the Premier League.

Twice this summer have we seen the British transfer record broken, the first by Elliot Anderson's £116million move from Nottingham Forest to Manchester City and then by Morgan Rogers joining Chelsea from Aston Villa for £117m.

Overall, Chelsea and Tottenham have been the biggest spenders this summer, although Liverpool are expected to secure the biggest move of the window as a £120m deal for Paris Saint-Germain's Bradley Barcola is finalised.

Other than the Barcola deal, Liverpool have also spent €40million (£34.6m) to trigger the release clause of Osasuna winger Victor Munoz, while struggling Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has joined on a season-long loan.

And, despite already spending plenty this summer, both Liverpool and Chelsea could enter the market once again having been offered the chance to sign a midfielder deemed to be one of the best in the world in a last-minute deal.

As per Ben Jacobs, both Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola have been offered chance to sign Monaco star Lamine Camara ahead of the transfer window closing on Tuesday (September 1).

Although both clubs are expected to be busy with other deals before the deadline, midfield is an area that Chelsea and Liverpool have been reportedly looking to strengthen, should a good opportunity come up.

Camara, 22, could be this perfect opportunity, with Monaco understood to be open to a sale at the right price, having already rejected a formal bid from Crystal Palace earlier this month.

However, it is currently unknown what the Ligue 1 side's valuation of Camara currently is, with some suggesting it could be around €40-50m (£34.3m - £42.9m).

Following Liverpool's 2-2 draw with Newcastle United in their opening Premier League fixture and the subsequent sale of Curtis Jones, it's clear that a combative midfielder is desperately needed at Anfield, meanwhile Chelsea could look to bring in a player like Camara should they sell Enzo Fernandez ahead of the deadline.

Alonso left Fernandez out of the squad for the midweek EFL Cup win over Luton Town, despite saying he was available prior to the game, as it appears increasingly likely that the Argentine international will join Manchester City in the coming days.

Camara therefore would be the perfect signing for both Liverpool and Chelsea and, with Monaco desperate to raise money having missing out on Champions League football for this season, a deal could easily be struck up before the window closes.

Camara labelled 'One of the Best In the World'

Should either Liverpool or Chelsea compelte a deal for Camara, they would be signing a player deemed to be one of the best midfielders in the world, according to new Monaco manager Filipe Luis.

"We are probably talking about one of the best midfielders in the world. I don't want to talk about him too much, because I know a lot of clubs would love to have him in their squad, and he is very important to me," Luis admitted when asked about Camara ahead of the season.

"He has that quality on the ball, covers a lot of ground, he is truly top class! I am really happy to have him, and he is going to play a key role in the team.

"Keeping him? I am very hopeful he will stay. I think he is happy in Monaco. So if he stays, he can play a key role in my game plan."

Camara has made 74 appearances for Monaco, scoring six goals and providing 11 assists.
