Liverpool’s top scorer in the Premier League since the World Cup sums up their nightmare form

Liverpool have scored just six league goals since the season resumed.

Liverpool's top scorer in the Premier League since the season resumed following the 2022 World Cup sums up their nightmare form.

Jurgen Klopp's team suffered their seventh league defeat of the season as they lost 3-0 at Wolves on Saturday.

They once again started slow as the hosts took a two-goal lead inside the first 12 minutes of the game.

Jurgen Klopp refused to answer James Pearce's question about the worrying theme, before eventually sharing his thoughts on his side's slow start after another reporter asked him the question.

Liverpool are well off the pace and misfiring in front of goal. What's more, they've scored just six goals in as many league games since the season restarted (via @thisisanfield).

And two of them are scored by Leicester City's Wout Faes, who scored two own-goals in Liverpool's win in December.

Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Stefan Bajcetic and Virgil van Dijk have all scored one goal each and are the club's only other scorers in the league.

Faes being Liverpool's top scorer in the league since the end of the World Cup got fans online talking.

One Twitter user wrote: "This is hilarious (and tragic) in equal measure. Still would happily sell all the players before I consider Klopps position."

A second tweeted: "So out of form it’s scary."

A third added: "But yeah Salah should be dropped like someone is raring to go on the bench."

A fourth said: "Nunez missed out on some goals..."

Another joked: "We should sign him."

Liverpool's poor form in the league has seen them slumped to 10th place in the league, 11 points adrift of fourth-placed Newcastle United and a massive 21 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

Naturally, Klopp cut a frustrated figure after their latest setback at Molineux as he touched on why his team start so slowly in matches.

"That's true, we had that subject through the first part of the season and now not so much anymore, but today it was, if you want, the pinnacle of our problems because in a game like this it is absolutely not allowed," he explained.

"You can criticise, you can judge us, you can say whatever want and you are probably right - I have nothing to say against that because these 12 minutes are not allowed.

"Coming here with all the things we did in the last few days - and during the whole season so far - with what we want, then you arrive here and this is the outcome, that’s really hard to take, I have to say."

The Reds resume their faltering league campaign at home to cross-town rivals Everton on February 13.
