Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group has been blasted over their handling of Mohamed Salah’s contract situation.

The Reds’ star man is heading into the final year of his current deal and there is no sign of an agreement being reached between club and player over an extension, as things stand, Salah will be a free agent at the end of the 22/23 season.

Liverpool have already parted ways with Senegal star Sadio Mane this summer after selling the winger to German champions Bayern Munich. And with Salah’s contract situation yet to be ironed out, the future is uncertain.

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves midfielder has had his say on the Salah situation.

He said on talkSPORT: “He's going into the final year of his contract, still hasn't signed a new deal, you've seen Mane leave. Now they recouped their money with Mane - good bit of business. He'd been at the football club, wanted to go in the end for whatever reasons, which will come out but I'm sure it was down to money.”

👀 “You’ve seen Mané leave, and Mo Salah could leave on a free…”

“Now Salah could go on a free - that is unacceptable. Liverpool have set the benchmark for how to do business as a football club and they've done it brilliantly. But they've got to get this sorted out because Mo Salah cannot leave that football club on a free.”

The contract talks between Liverpool officials and Salah’s representatives have been dragging on for a long while but they seem to be stuck at a crossroad.

Salah has previously said that he isn’t looking for ‘crazy money’ but the club remain reluctant to break their strict wage structure.

Salah did confirm that he will be playing for Liverpool for the 22/23 campaign before the Champions League final.

He said: “I have a contract until next season so I'll be staying until then.”

When asked if there are any updates on the contract situation Salah simply replied: “No, not yet, nothing at all.”

🚨 Liverpool could allow Mo Salah to leave this summer for £60m after he demanded £160k-a-week more than Virgil van Dijk to sign a new deal at the club.

Salah joined Liverpool back in 2017 in a deal worth an intial £36.5 million. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best players in the world and in Liverpool’s history. In total, the Egypt superstar has made 254 appearances for the Anfield club across all competitions, scoring 156 goals.

He is without a doubt a vital player for Liverpool, the clock is ticking fast as Salah's contract nears its end, the club will need to pick up the pace in order to sort the situation out.

Will Salah be a Liverpool player beyond the 22/23 season? Only time will tell.
