Premier League and Arsenal legend Ian Wright has dubbed Liverpool midfielder Thiago an "unbelievable" player and says he could destroy teams this season.

The Spanish maestro joined Liverpool in September 2020 from Bayern Munich, and has played an instrumental role in the middle of the park for the scouse side since arriving in England.

Thiago’s ability to create chances from almost nothing was a key part in Liverpool’s successful 2021/2022 season, which saw them achieve a domestic double, reach the Champions League final and finish second in the Premier League.

Speaking on The Kelly & Wrighty Show on Optus Sport, the former Gunners striker compared Thiago to an equally impressive midfielder in Kevin De Bruyne.

“When you have a striker who is willing to break, the high line cannot happen, you are going to have to drop off,” said Wright.

“You have De Bruyne and all those unbelievable players in midfield, like Thiago, who are going to have time and space and then you have a problem.”

Unfortunately for Liverpool fans, Thiago was seen limping off in the second half of the Red’s lacklustre performance against Fulham, a game which saw them draw 2-2 with Marco Silva’s newly promoted side.

It has now been confirmed that his hamstring injury will see him miss up to six weeks of action.

Suffering from injuries has become a predictable theme of the midfielder’s stint in England, and since joining Liverpool he has missed 45 games due to illnesses or injury.

With Keita and Curtis Jones also unavailable for selection, the Merseyside club are looking very light in the middle of the pitch, and Jürgen Klopp admitted his side were in a tough situation when speaking to the press after the Fulham game.

“We said we don’t need a midfielder, we have enough."

"The problem is we are now punished for something that isn’t our responsibility,” Klopp said.

“No one could imagine Curtis Jones gets the thing he gets [a knock]."

"Naby [Keita] is only ill but could be back next week, and with Thiago of course that’s not good.”

Time will tell how the Liverpool boss addresses this situation, but they will certainly want Thiago back as soon as possible.
