Liverpool handed major injury boost as star set to return for Man Utd clash

Liverpool have been handed an injury boost.

Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is set to be included in the squad to face Manchester United after picking up an injury in the 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.

The Guinea international was substituted at half-time against Crystal Palace last Saturday, and missed out on Wednesday's 2-0 win over Wolves.

Journalist Ian Doyle confirmed that Keita was absent from that game due to a knock, leaving his participation against United in doubt.

The midfielder has struggled with injury this season, missing three months of action between August and November. Since his comeback, however, he has been a regular part of Klopp's side.

Speaking ahead of the United clash, Klopp confirmed that all Reds players, barring the injured trio of Thiago, Luis Diaz and Joe Gomez, were 'fine' after the final training session - which appears to give Keita the green light to return.

The German explained (via talkSPORT): "Yesterday evening they were all fine, apart from the players who are out - Thiago and Luis Diaz.

"Joey [Gomez] is closer, but not close enough."

The return of Keita will be a boost for the Reds, with the United clash their third game in seven days.

However, Liverpool supporters will be hoping that a return date is given for Thiago's comeback, with the Spaniard an important player in Klopp's system.

Diaz, meanwhile, is expected to be back in action after the international break, which will add more firepower to the Reds side as they push for a Champions League qualification place.

They are currently six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham, but have a game in hand on Antonio Conte's side. Both teams are still in the Champions League this term, and will look to overturn deficits to AC Milan and Real Madrid respectively in the second legs of their last 16 ties later this month.
