Off the back of Liverpool’s devastating 4-1 defeat at Napoli last night, manager Jürgen Klopp has been quizzed on his future as the club’s manager.

And for the moment, the German claims he is “not really” worried about a potential sacking coming his way.

He went on to say: “our owners are rather calm and expect me to sort the situation and not think someone else will.”

Given the success he has delivered at Anfield since his arrival in the UK in 2015, Klopp’s wish to be granted more time will in all likelihood be granted.

Nevertheless, Liverpool’s squad does look out of ideas at the moment. Fans of the club are justified to be concerned about the future.

Few doubt the managerial capabilities of Jürgen Klopp, but it is possible that his message at Anfield could be becoming a little repetitive now.

One thing that seems glaringly obvious is that the team itself is in a dire need of a refresh, especially in the middle of the park.

With both players now suffering from a decline in performance due to age, Jordan Henderson and James Milner should not be starting consistently for Liverpool football club.

But the lack of reliability from the players around them makes this a difficult conundrum for Jürgen Klopp to confront.

Firstly, the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Curtis Jones, and Naby Keita are constantly injured.

And then there are Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho, offensively oriented players who don’t have the defensive prowess to play in the same team either side of Fabinho.

Liverpool fans have understandably questioned why the bulk of their summer transfer funds were directed towards signing a new forward in Darwin Nuñez rather than toward potential midfield rejuvenation.

The situation for Klopp at Liverpool right now is not ideal. Perhaps the seventh season curse will strike again.

That said, he does still have a significant amount of quality at his disposal. Liverpool, and their manager, should be alright.
