The former Manchester United and England defender Rio Ferdinand has shared his thoughts on Liverpool’s latest player, calling Darwin Núñez a "top signing".

As an ex Man U player, Rio Ferdinand has never been one to compliment Liverpool’s decisions. But even he cannot overlook the quality that the former Benfica striker will bring to Liverpool’s side.

Darwin Núñez impressed the footballing world last season, netting himself 34 goals in 41 outings for Benfica, including two goals against his new club when the sides met in the Champions League quarter finals.

The 22-year old striker has signed for Liverpool for an initial fee of £64 million, that could potentially rise to £85 million if he reaches a number of milestones, which range from scoring goals to winning the Champions League.

Coming into the side for a club record transfer fee has brought a lot of attention to the clinical Uruguayan forward, with both managers and pundits alike immediately weighing in on Liverpool's newest signing.

Núñez arrives at Anfield amid the uncertainty of Sadio Mane’s future with the club. The Senegalese international is now looking to make a move away from Liverpool, and is set to join Bayern Munich.

However, the BT sports pundit Rio Ferdinand believes that the Reds' future is in safe hands, having found a “top” replacement in Núñez.

Watched a lot of this guy in the #UCL last season…. VVD gave a glowing reference in a recent interview. Looks like a top signing for @LFC unfortunately 😂😂😂 https://t.co/crZjUsTdpB

Ferdinand is clearly impressed with Liverpool’s new No.27 Darwin Núñez. He put it simply in a tweet stating that “unfortunately” for the other Premier League clubs he “looks like a top signing for Liverpool”.

Liverpool’s charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp also gave similar praise to Núñez when he was first introduced to the formidable youngster in Liverpool’s matches against Benfica.

He was quoted saying that he was “Really good, really good”, commenting that “he was physically strong, quick and calm around his finish”.

So It’s no wonder after this much admiration that Klopp has ended up signing him. There is no doubt that he has an exciting career ahead of him, so make sure to keep an eye on Núñez this season.
