Al Hilal forward Darwin Núñez is reportedly attracting interest from a major European club despite the Uruguayan being heavily linked with a return to Liverpool.

Núñez, who is currently at the World Cup, left Liverpool in August 2025, completing a £46.3 million move to Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal after a turbulent three seasons on Merseyside.

The 26-year-old failed to fully convince the Anfield faithful with his inconsistent performances, despite registering 40 goals and 26 assists in 143 appearances for the Reds. His contributions helped Liverpool win the Premier League title in 2025.

Since arriving in the Middle East, Núñez has scored nine goals in 24 appearances for Al Hilal, with the Saudi club finishing second behind Cristiano Ronaldo's Al Nassr last season.

On June 15, Uruguayan outlet Carve Deportiva reported that Núñez could return to Liverpool this summer. However, the report suggested the forward is focused on Uruguay's World Cup campaign and will address his future at a later date.

However, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano suggested the information in the report was "not true".

Speaking on his YouTube channel on June 16, he said: "Guys, with maximum respect to those sources close to the Uruguayan national team, close to the club or whatever, my information is that those close to Darwin and sources close to Darwin's camp deny this information.

"Those close to Darwin Núñez say that it's not true – there's nothing ongoing with Darwin Núñez and Liverpool. This is the information coming from those close to the Uruguayan striker."

The Athletic’s sources provided a similar stance, insisting that a return to Anfield is unlikely at this time.

Now, a fresh report from Tuttosport claims former Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim is keen to bring Núñez to the San Siro after being appointed AC Milan head coach.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Amorim is also a fan of Paris Saint-Germain and Portugal forward Gonçalo Ramos, who has largely served as an understudy to Ousmane Dembélé at the Parc des Princes.

PSG value Ramos at €40 million (£34.6 million) while Milan would also be willing to discuss a loan deal with an obligation to buy in 2027.

Núñez is contracted to Al Hilal until 2028. Ramos' current deal also runs until 2028.

Nunez reveals true feelings on Liverpool

Despite coming under fire from some quarters during his time at Liverpool, Nunez admitted that he missed his old club when speaking back in January.

“Yes, I’d be lying if I said no, that I don’t miss them,” he said in an interview with AUFTV.

“The truth is, they made me feel very good and my family too.

“In difficult moments that I went through personally, the people always gave me that affection, that support, and that was very important to me.

“Obviously, I miss Liverpool, I miss them a lot.”
