Jamie Carragher has had his say on how he believes Jürgen Klopp will line up his attack next season with the signing of Benfica’s Darwin Nuñez.

The Sky Sports pundit believes Liverpool's “frontline” was in need of a “refresh” because of “the age of that front three.” The famous attacking trio of Mo Salah, Roberto Firmino, and Sadio Mané are indeed all entering their twilight years. Firmino and Mané are already 30, while Salah celebrates his 30th birthday tomorrow.

As such, Carragher believes Nuñez will immediately walk into Liverpool’s first-choice front three and take up a place as a natural starter. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Liverpool centre-back revealed he would like to see Nuñez play through the middle with Luis Diaz and Mo Salah either side of him.

This will certainly be a front three which strikes fear into opposing defenders. Jürgen Klopp has always possessed a frontline with serious pace, but with the addition of power through the acquisition of Nuñez, Liverpool could become too hot to handle for some backlines.

And Liverpool remain lucky enough to boast some of the best attacking depth in the Premier League even with the likely departure of Sadio Mané. Roberto Firmino remains a useful plan B option with his ability to operate as a false 9. Diogo Jota guarantees goals. Meanwhile, new recruit Fabio Carvalho will add a further flavour to Liverpool’s offensive line after his move from Fulham.

Things are aligning rather pleasingly for Jürgen Klopp regarding his forward options. As he has tended to over the course of recent seasons, the German manager will rotate on a regular basis. However, all six of the attacking names aforementioned will want to establish themselves as first-choice in their preferred role.

This quality in depth is what makes sides like Manchester City and Liverpool truly elite. The healthy competition only encourages players to take their game up a level, and the opportunity for interchangeability if injuries occur is invaluable. Whoever Jürgen Klopp picks to play within his front three next season, Liverpool will continue to be a serious attacking threat.
