Key Liverpool target now 'very likely' to leave club this summer as major decision announced

A key Chelsea player is likely to leave.

A key Liverpool transfer target is now 'very likely' to leave according to a journalist after he recently announced a major decision.

Jurgen Klopp's side are on a mission to overhaul their squad this summer as part of a rebuild to get the club back to challenging for trophies.

One area that has come under constant criticism this season is the midfield and improving it is a priority for Liverpool.

It's recently been reported that the likelihood of one of their targets Mason Mount leaving Chelsea is high after talks over a new contract stalled.

With his current deal running out in 2024 the Blues won't want to risk losing him on a free transfer so could cash in soon.

What's the update?

Journalist Fabrizio Romano (via Matt Hughes) provided an update on Mount's future and confirmed that the Englishman has appointed a new agent.

Posting on Twitter, he said: "Mason Mount has now appointed Neil Fewings as new agent, agreement done weeks ago — understand it’s very likely that he will leave Chelsea in July."

The fresh news should send Liverpool fans into a frenzy as it could mean the Reds are able to snap him up at a cut price.

Klopp has also made a move for teenage sensation Jude Bellingham his priority so the English duo could link up.

Chelsea have splashed the cash over the past couple of transfer windows and they're already struggling to keep players happy.

Mount has been at the club for his whole career so seeing him playing for another top club would be strange but it's a move that he might need to make to further his development.

The 24-year-old was recently left out of Chelsea's squad when they faced Leicester City because of the contract dispute and it doesn't seem like it's going to get resolved anytime soon.

If he does decide to leave then Liverpool will have to battle with Manchester United and Newcastle who could offer Champions League football to the midfielder.
