Laura Woods in tears on her final talkSPORT show after 82-year-old listener reads poem on air

Laura Woods in tears on her final talkSPORT show after 82-year-old listener reads poem on air

Ivor, a Manchester United fan, made Laura Woods cry at 6:23am in the morning after reading out an incredible poem on air.

The time has come. After entertaining millions of people up and down the country for the past three years, Laura Woods presented her final talkSPORT Breakfast show on Wednesday morning – and it was an emotional one.

Earlier this month, Woods announced that she will be stepping down from the role.

The 35-year-old, who is set to host TNT Sport's Champions League coverage next season when BT Sport is rebranded, was visibly emotional as she delivered a heartwarming farewell to co-host Ally McCoist.

Speaking to the former Rangers striker live on air, she said: “Ally, I want to say to you that I genuinely feel like I won the lottery to be able to work so closely with you.

"When the entire world has been speaking about one sporting event - whatever that may be - me and you just get to sit in these chairs and talk about it with each other."

Woods added: "That's been the privilege of my life, it really has, I'm just very lucky to be able to do that."

Two weeks later and Woods presented her final talkSPORT Breakfast show that featured an 82-year-old fan going by the name of Ivor, who called the show at 6:23am to deliver a special tribute.

Like many listeners at home, she was in tears as the Manchester United supporter detailed what makes the former Sky Sports host such a special person and presenter.

“I don’t want to waste too much of your time on your final day, just a few words of appreciation and then one verse of rhyme, if that’s OK," Ivor began.

“We all know you have the face for TV, but you certainly have the voice for radio so just a few words of thanks for your efforts on talkSPORT these last few years."

He added: “Your bubbly personality shines through every early morning that you broadcast, being never afraid to offer an opinion, but always respectful and professional of other opinion.

“You have a knack of interacting with your co-presenters in a humorous way without detracting from the topic discussed.

“In thanks to you for getting each day off to a cheerful but informative start. I sincerely wish you all the best wherever your career takes you in the future, now the verse.

“Mr Brazil is good, Ray Parlour not bad, super Ally is great, Gabby’s Jack the Lad.

“But one presenter shines above the rest, that’s Laura Woods who’s simply the best.”

Ally McCoist, who was also emotional following the reading, said: “Ivor I’m just about weeping uncontrollably myself in the studio, honestly that was fantastic mate.”

Woods then concluded: “Ivor I have to admit you’ve broken me early, I’m already crying and it’s only 6:23.”

Who is cutting onions in here? In all seriousness, Laura has done a phenomenal job hosting the talkSPORT breakfast show and she will be dearly missed by those who tune in every morning.
