One of Real Madrid's top players will now miss out on playing at the World Cup due to an injury that will sideline him for up to seven months.

The 2025/26 season is rapidly approaching its end, as title races across the top leagues in Europe start to heat up ahead of the final matches.

Thankfully, once the season ends, football fans won't have to wait for long until they'll see some of the biggest names in the sport back in action as the World Cup kicks off in June.

Of course, with the World Cup now just three months away, players will not be acutely aware that any injury setbacks now could mean they miss out on the major international competition this summer.

And it has now been revealed that this is exactly what has happened to one of Real Madrid's key players, as they have reportedly suffered a season-ending injury.

On Monday evening, Real Madrid suffered a 1-0 loss during their La Liga clash with Getafe CF at Estadio Bernabeu.

During the match, Rodrygo was brought on shortly before the hour mark after almost a month out of action with tendinitis, as the hosts looked for a vital equaliser after Getafe striker Martin Satriano opened the scoring in the 39th minute.

Just minutes after stepping onto the pitch, the Brazilian fell onto the floor after his knee was caught, immediately causing concerns that he may have suffered a serious injury.

Fortunately, it appeared that this was not the case as the 25-year-old was able to continue playing for the remainder of the match.

However, according to Spanish outlet Marca, scans on Tuesday morning have revealed that Rodrygo has suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his right knee and that has ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

Of course, this also means that Rodrygo will not be available for Brazil in the coming weeks for friendlies against France and Croatia or for their World Cup opener against Morocco on June 13.

The injury news means that Real Madrid will now travel to face Celta Vigo with Vinicius Jr and Gonzalo Garcia as the only available strikers, with star player Kylian Mbappe also dealing with an injury.

Meanwhile Franco Mastantuono is suspended after picking up a red card in the final moments of the Getafe match.
