The crisis at Real Madrid has gotten even worse as a star player is believed to be considering retirement after sustaining a nightmare injury.

Despite being one of the biggest and most successful clubs in football, Real Madrid is far from being safe from crises.

Having been knocked out knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich, while sitting 11 points behind rivals Barcelona in La Liga, it is almost certain that the Spanish giants will go trophyless for the second season in a row.

Meanwhile the situation back in the dressing room is a complete disaster, with players refusing to speak with manager Alvaro Arbeloa while also fighting each other on the pitch.

In the most shocking incident, Federico Valverde is reported to have lost consciousness following a fight in the locker room with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

And now, things at Real Madrid have gotten even worse as it has been reported that defender Ferland Mendy has suffered a very serious injury that will rule him out for at least a year

According to Spanish journalist Miguel Angel Diaz of COPE, the Frenchman has a torn tendon with bone separation after coming off after just 14 minutes in Real Madrid’s 2-0 LaLiga win over Espanyol at the weekend.

"Following tests carried out today on our player Ferland Mendy... he has been diagnosed with a rectus femoris tendon injury in his right leg," Madrid said in a statement following the match.

Initially it was believed that the injury would leave Mendy out for around five months after surgery, but it's now been confirmed to be much worse, with Ramon Alvarez de Mon adding that it has left the defender considering retirement if his rehabilitation does not progress well.

The 30-year-old is currently under contract at Real Madrid until 2028 after renewing his in the summer of 2024.

This marks the 16th injury that Mendy has sustained since joining Madrid from Lyon in 2019 for an initial fee of €48million, potentially rising to €53m with add-ons.

He has made just nine appearances this season after undergoing surgery for his previous injury in April last year.

The injury also rules Mendy out of any outside chance he had of making Didier Deschamps's World Cup squad, after his last France appearance came in June 2024.

Real Madrid crisis reaches boiling point as Federico Valverde rushed to hospital

News of Mendy's injury comes just hours after reports of Tchouameni and Valverde's tense fight emerged online.

The fight came less than 24 hours after the midfielders had an argument during training on Wednesday that became physical as the pair pushed each other and continued arguing in the dressing room.

On Thursday, it was then revealed that things between the pair had gotten even worse, as they clashed again to the point that players had to intervene and Valverde was sent to go to hospital.

It is reported that the incident started when Valverde refused to shake hands with Tchouameni after their initial conflict leading to things kicking off once again.

The fight continued into the locker room, leading to Valverde slipping and hitting his head on a table, sustaining a cut that led to him being rushed to hospital and getting stitches.

News of Mendy's injury and the explosive fight come just days before the El Clasico clash with historic rivals Barcelona at the Camp Nou on Sunday with Hansi Flick's side needing just one point to clinch the La Liga title with three games to go this season.
