Why JJ Gabriel is missing from Premier League registered players list on Man Utd's website

Manchester United wonderkid JJ Gabriel is eligible to play in England's top flight this season, despite not being listed as a Premier League-registered player on the club's website.

The 15-year-old, who is widely regarded as one of the biggest young talents in world football, has trained regularly with United's first-team of late.

In fact, he was pictured in training alongside Benjamin Sesko, Luke Shaw and Harry Amass on Thursday as Michael Carrick's side prepare for their Premier League clash against Everton on Sunday.

A short time later, United confirmed that they have submitted their Premier League squad list for the 2026-27 season.

Each season, competing clubs must submit a list of a maximum 25 senior players (over the age of 21). In that list, there must be at least eight homegrown players, with the remaining 17 being non-homegrown.

Meanwhile, several first-team players, including Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro, were named in the list of under-21 players, meaning they were born on or after 1 January 2005. They are also eligible to play.

As seen beiow, the previously mentioned Harry Amass is included in that under-21 list alongside Ayden Heaven, Shea Lacey and Kai Rooney. However, plenty of fans questioned why JJ Gabriel was missing from the list.

The forward, who has impressed for United's under-21 side in recent weeks, does not feature because the list on United's website is for scholars and professionals only. Gabriel, meanwhile, is only 15 years of age.

That being said, Gabriel is eligible to play in the Premier League this season.

Last season, Max Dowman made his Arsenal debut at the age of 15 years and 235 days after coming off the bench against Leeds United. He became the second-youngest player in Premier League history.

Michael Carrick heaps praise on JJ Gabriel

Last month, as Michael Carrick watched on at Leigh Sports Village, JJ Gabriel marked his Premier League 2 debut against Ipswich Town with a goal and two assists in a 5-0 win.

Speaking after the full-time whistle, Carrick was asked about the teenager's future.

"I really enjoyed the game," he told BBC Sport. "You could see the quality. JJ is one of the boys. He's obviously got a really big talent. He's trained with us quite a bit and is getting experience all the time.

"He's physically adapting to each step that he makes, and we're just continuing his development."

United's youngest-ever player is David Gaskell, a goalkeeper who made his debut when he was 16 years and 19 days. Will he get the chance to break that record? Only time will tell.
