Liverpool fans have had their say after Trent Alexander-Arnold made a huge confession during an interview following his Real Madrid debut on Wednesday.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, made his debut for Real Madrid during their 1-1 draw against Al Hilal in the Club World Cup group stage on Wednesday (June 18).

The former Liverpool man was introduced by new head coach Xabi Alonso on 65 minutes and showed early signs of nervousness before getting into his stride.

Spanish outlet SPORT wrote: "Little newcomer so far. Trent Alexander-Arnold, too hastily, commits fouls down the right."

While MARCA added: "I don't know how you saw it on TV [a defensive error] but Trent getting out of the way during the Al Hilal counterattack ... it left me speechless.”

Of course, despite the occasion, it was a relatively low-key performance from the 26-year-old, but it was what he said after the game that has got fans talking.

When he spoke to reporters after the game, Trent explained exactly how long he’d been learning Spanish for after he spoke in the language during his unveiling last week.

"Incredible day to have made my debut for Real Madrid,” Trent said. “It’s something almost every player dreams of so to be able to achieve it is huge for me. There’s some disappointment not to have won the game, but it’s the mentality you need to have as a Real player is to want and expect to win every game you’ve played in.

"I’ve felt the support from the moment I signed the club. Absolutely sensational. The fan base is truly global all around the world, and you feel it every day.

"I’ve been learning Spanish a couple of months. I want to adapt and give myself the best start possible. It’s important to show the intent that I want to embrace the culture and adapt as best as possible. That was important for me to do so."

And Liverpool fans were quick to react.

One said: “Instead of learning Spanish, he should have focused on defending.”

Another added: “Everyone at Liverpool wanted to win every game too, you were too busy learning Spanish and playing like s**t.”

While a third explained: "Yesterday it was few weeks, now today it’s few months, then tomorrow you will finally come out with the truth and confirm it's a few year."
