Trent Alexander-Arnold could be handed an escape route out of Real Madrid with two Premier League clubs reportedly vying for his services.
The 27-year-old defender departed boyhood club Liverpool last summer having spent the entirety of his career up until that point with the Anfield outfit, a decision which split the opinion of the Reds' fanbase.
Alexander-Arnold scored 23 goals in 354 games for Liverpool with his trophy haul including two Premier League crowns, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.
The defender's Liverpool deal was due to expire at the end of June 2025, and he would have joined Real on a free transfer.

However, Madrid opted to pay a transfer fee to allow Alexander-Arnold to represent Los Blancos at last summer's FIFA Club World Cup, which was eventually won by Chelsea.
This season for Real has been a topsy-turvy one for Alexander-Arnold in his first season in the Spanish capital.
He has made only 11 appearances in all competitions for Real and picked up a quadriceps injury earlier in December, which has ruled him out of action for a couple of months.
With the January transfer window now open, speculation has emerged regarding the defender's future.

According to Spanish website Fichajes, Real are considering selling the former Liverpool defender and that 'several Premier League clubs' are interested in potentially bringing Alexander-Arnold back to England this summer.
One club named in the article are Newcastle United, who currently sit tenth in the Premier League table.
And the other controversial potential route out of Real is to Liverpool's fierce rivals Manchester United, who sit sixth at present in the table and are two points behind Arne Slot's team, who Alexander-Arnold won the Premier League title with last season.
The attraction of selling Alexander-Arnold for Real is obvious, given any transfer fee they would receive for the defender would mostly be profit in light of the relatively low amount of money they parted with to sign the player.
Both Newcastle and United are even reported to be considering offers of around €40 million for Alexander-Arnold, but both of these are considered to be 'insufficient' to convince Real to sell the defender, with the La Liga side said to have 'no intention of letting him go'.
Alexander-Arnold's Real Madrid contract runs until the summer of 2031.
