"I would have left..." - Mbappe makes claim about his PSG future amid Man Utd and Liverpool links

Kylian Mbappe opened up about his PSG future.

Kylian Mbappe opened up about his Paris Saint-Germain future amid Manchester United and Liverpool links.

The France striker, whose future in Paris is continuously debated, became PSG’s all-time top scorer on Sunday, netting his 201st goal for the club, despite only being 24.

Moreover, Mbappe further solidified his place among the best players on the planet at the World Cup, leaving Qatar with the Golden Boot, having netted a hat-trick in the final.

The forward has been linked with Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid in particular in recent times.

Indeed, Mbappe confirmed he held discussions with Jurgen Klopp’s side prior to putting pen to paper on a new PSG contract last summer. The Frenchman admitted to the Telegraph in May: “We talked a little bit, but not too much. We talked a little bit."

Meanwhile, United, who have been tipped to sign a long-term Cristiano Ronaldo replacement in the summer, have also allegedly expressed an interest in the star.

Football Insider claimed last month new United owners could launch a sensational swoop for PSG star Mbappe.

Though the report did not specify which prospective new owner would be interested in Mbappe, it claimed the club would want a marquee signing to come in should a takeover be completed.

Mbappe makes PSG claim

Mbappe admitted that PSG’s performance in this season’s Champions League will have no bearing on his future at the club.

The French giants head into the Champions League last-16 second leg 1-0 down against Bayern Munich, with the German side having claimed a win at the Parc des Princes through Kingsley Coman.

"If I linked my future to the Champions League, without wishing to show a lack of respect to the club, I would have left a long time ago," said Mbappe.

"I don't think this match will have an impact. I am here and I am very happy to be here. I am not thinking about anything other than making PSG successful."

PSG will be without star forward, Neymar, who has been ruled out for the season with an ankle injury. Meanwhile, captain Marquinhos and fellow centre-back Nordi Mukiele both have fitness issues.
