'If I was Man City boss I'd rather have Miguel Almiron than Jack Grealish'

'If I was Man City boss I'd rather have Miguel Almiron than Jack Grealish'

Miguel Almiron has enjoyed a fine start to the season.

Jose Enrique says he would rather have Miguel Almiron than Jack Grealish if he was Manchester City manager.

It comes after Grealish savagely mocked Almiron during his side's title parade last season.

He mocked the Paraguayan international after he said Riyad Mahrez played like him against Aston Villa.

It appears Almiron has used Grealish's words as motivation, having enjoyed a brilliant start to the season.

He's scored four goals in nine games for Newcastle United while the England star has just one league goal to his name this term.

The differing form has prompted former Liverpool and Newcastle defender Enrique to make a bold claim about the pair.

He said he'd select Almiron over Grealish if he was in charge of the Blues.

"For me, if I was City manager I would rather have Miguel Almiron than Jack Grealish," the 36-year-old told Midnite.

"I love Almiron, I think he gives everything for the team. You can see he’s scoring goals now as well.

"He reminds me of Luis Diaz, that kind of player. They have the ability but they give everything for the team as well. They get it right. I love him."

Enrique continued by claiming Almiron is a player capable of playing in the Champions League.

"Almiron is someone who could play for a Champions League team," he added. "I love Almiron, he’s been one of their best performers."

Almiron joined the Magpies from Atlanta United in January 2019.

He's been an ever-present and has starred under Eddie Howe, who hailed the 28-year-old's mentality when discussing his in-form player.

"I think Miggy is mentally very strong," he explained. "When you look back at his career and the challenges that he’s faced, with the different countries he has played in, full credit to him for that journey.

"He arrives here now, mentally, in the best place he’s ever been. Certainly during his pre-season form, I thought he was outstanding. He’s taken that now into the earlier part of the season and I think there’s a lot more to come.

"I’m excited by what he can deliver but, even when he’s not scoring, he still delivers so much for the team that maybe goes unnoticed."

Almiron will look to continue his impressive form when his side face Manchester United on Sunday.
