He resigned after that historic run, only to return in 2019 and win another La Liga title. Although Zidane has not managed since, he is not set to return to his hometown of Marseille with Universe Football on what has been described as a "special family project".

Zidane said: "Olympique Marseille is in a good position. I never played here, but it was a desire that was never fulfilled.

"To be here at La Commanderie, to see the facilities... it looks like a big club. There are some really interesting things."

Zidane has been linked with a return to management in recent days.

On Wednesday , Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, sparked rumours on social media that Manchester United could be set for new ownership.

During that meeting, Zidane presented Alalshikh with a signed Real Madrid shirt, and signed Alalshikh's Almeria shirt.

The Spanish club were bought earlier this year by a Saudi investment consortium.

Zidane left Real Madrid for a second time In May 2021 following a trophyless campaign with the Spanish giants.
