Man Utd fans urge INEOS to immediately 'sell' player as alarming claim made despite Ipswich win

Manchester United had some brilliance from Bruno Fernandes to thank after coming from behind to thrash Ipswich Town 5-2, but supporters still weren't happy with one player's performance.

United came into their game against another newly promoted side after losing 2-0 to Hull City last weekend, and Michael Carrick ordered a response from his side.

Carrick made four changes to the side that tasted a shock defeat at the MKM Stadium, including a first start for Marcus Rashford in 626 days, as well as appearances for Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo.

But it was Ipswich who went 1-0 up through Leif Davis at the half-hour mark, after making a bright start to the game, before the Red Devils turned it up a notch as Bruno Fernandes equalised on the stroke of half-time.

Fernandes then scored twice in the second half to complete his hat-trick - his second in the Premier League - either side of a Jacob Greaves own goal and a Bryan Mbeumo strike before Chuba Akpom grabbed a consolation for the visitors in added time.

An impressive second 45 minutes, including more brilliance from their captain, was exactly what Man United needed after a poor opening game of the campaign against Hull.

However, despite positives flooding in for several of their players online, supporters continued to criticise the performance of Luke Shaw, who has endured a challenging start to the season.

Shaw was at fault for Nobel Mendy's goal last weekend after keeping the defender onside, and against Ipswich, the left-back was burned for pace on the outside by Abdul Fatawu, who assisted Davis with an excellent cross.

"Going without signing a left-back will ruin our season. The club cannot afford to sit and watch. Luke Shaw isn’t the same player, and his fitness cannot be trusted," one fan commented, warning INEOS that not signing a left-back will 'ruin' their season.

Others were brutal in their assessment of the 31-year-old, ordering the club to 'sell' the long-serving defender after watching him struggle.

"Sell Luke Shaw. I've been saying it for 2 seasons now. Time for a change," another wrote, while a third said: "Sell Luke Shaw and buy a whole new defense. The midfield is there, the attacking is there but the defense is nonexistent."

"Man United need to sell Luke Shaw; it's time for him to pack his bags," someone else agreed.

What's the latest on Man United's left-back pursuit

Time is running out for United to sign a left-back, and any player, for that matter, with the transfer window shutting on September 1.

A left-back is seen as the most important position to acquire before the deadline, but INEOS have been left frustrated in their attempts to capture a player to compete with Shaw, or arguably take his place.

Newcastle United's Lewis Hall was their top target, but the Magpies have made it clear he isn't for sale after losing several of their key players this summer.

United also explored a deal for Barcelona's Alejandro Balde, even reaching out to the Spaniard's representatives, before being told he wanted to stay at the Nou Camp.

Racing Santander's highly-rated full-back Jorge Salinas, meanwhile, was linked with a switch to Old Trafford, though at 19, he is probably seen as a long-term signing rather than someone to make an immediate impact.

As it stands, Shaw is Carrick's only natural senior option at left-back, and that could come back to bite them come the end of the season.
