Wrexham currently sit second in League Two after an impressive run of form - but co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney could look to the January transfer window to ensure promotion.

The Red Dragons have picked up 21 points in their last 10 games, with Phil Parkinson's side only behind Stockport in the standings.

But they are level on points with third-placed Barrow, who have won their last six matches, while Mansfield, Crewe and Notts County are all only a point behind.

They were struck with an injury blow earlier this week when it was announced that on-loan Arsenal goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo had returned to his parent club for surgery on a broken jaw - although he is only anticipated to miss weeks of action.

Here are five players Wrexham could look to sign in January.

Luke Armstrong (Harrogate Town)

Wrexham had agreed a deal with Harrogate to sign striker Luke Armstrong in the summer, but the proposed club-record deal was cancelled by the EFL due to paperwork not being submitted on time.

The 27-year-old hasn't featured for his current club in recent weeks, with manager Simon Weaver confirming in a recent press conference that he is not selecting him ahead of an expected move in January.

With Steven Fletcher currently on the injury list, Reynolds and McElhenney could make a fresh swoop for Armstrong next month.

Rolando Aarons (Free agent)

Former Newcastle winger Rolando Aarons, who made 18 Premier League appearances for the Magpies, has been without a club since his release from Scottish Premiership side Motherwell in June.

The 28-year-old has played for six clubs in the last four years, including spells in Italy and Czech Republic, but Wrexham could be the perfect place for the Jamaica international to resume his career.

Billy Sharp (Free agent)

Given the much-publicised feud between Billy Sharp and Wrexham when he played for Sheffield United last season, you might not hold out too much hope of this one happening.

But the 37-year-old striker is without a club following a short spell at LA Galaxy, and the former Premier League forward recently spoke of his interest in at least speaking to Wrexham over a move if they approached him.

In the fourth tier of English football, Sharp would surely be a good bet for a few goals between January and the end of the season.

Matty Longstaff (Free agent)

Former Newcastle midfielder Matty Longstaff has missed the entirety of 2023 due to an ACL injury, but confirmed in an interview with SPORTbible that he was hoping to be fully fit by next month.

The 23-year-old impressed in a loan spell in League Two with Mansfield during the 2021/22 campaign - playing a key role in their run to the play-off final - and could be an asset to Wrexham later on in the season as they look to gain promotion to League One.

Lino Sousa (Arsenal)

Big things are expected of young left-back Lino Sousa, who was signed by Arsenal from West Brom when he was just 16 in 2022.

Sousa has represented England at multiple age groups and spent time with the Gunners' senior squad, but the defender, who will turn 19 in January, is yet to make his debut.

With fellow young defender Reuell Walters ahead of him in the pecking order, Arsenal may decide to loan him out. And given their relationship with Wrexham through Arthur Okonkwo's loan, another temporary arrangement could be reached.
