Wrexham finally make first signing of January transfer window as Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney make huge promotion statement

The Red Dragons have made a huge signing as they continue to chase League One promotion.

Wrexham have completed their first signing of the January transfer window as they continue to push for their third successive promotion.

On Thursday evening, Wrexham drew 1-1 with League One leaders Birmingham City in a crucial clash at the Racecourse ground.

The Red Dragons took the lead early in the match thanks to a goal from Oliver Rathbone, but failed to hold on to their lead after Lyndon Dykes equalised just nine minutes later.

But Wrexham haven't allowed the result to slow down their momentum, as they have now made a massive signing to help them continue to push for automatic promotion to the Championship.

On Friday morning the Welsh side confirmed that English winger Ryan Longman had joined for an undisclosed fee from Hull City, signing a deal until the end of the 2026-27 season with the option of an additional year.

Wrexham podcast RobRyanRed later revealed that the fee paid for the 24-year-old is believed to be in the region of £500,000

In a club statement, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson said: “We’re delighted to bring Ryan to the Club. He’s an exciting young player and I’m really looking forward to working with him.”

Longman added: “I’m over the moon and so glad that the deal is over the line.

“I’m really looking forward to being a part of this journey. I came to watch the game last night and the atmosphere was incredible.”

The Englishman came through Brighton's academy before joining Hull City on a permanent deal in the summer of 2022 following a successful loan the season before.

However he struggled to continue to make his mark with the Tigers, scoring just four goals in 62 league appearances for Hull City before spending the 2023-24 campaign on loan with Millwall.

Longman joins Wrexham as they sit third in the League One table, just two points away from Wycombe Wanderers who currently sit in second place, earning automatic promotion.

The Red Dragons are 11 points clear of seventh placed Reading, meaning they stand a strong chance of making the play-offs even if they are to miss out on securing first or second place in the League One table.
