Wrexham are reportedly closing in on a deal for Josh Windass after his departure from Sheffield Wednesday, but the forward could be facing an awkward conversation with one of his new teammates.
The Red Dragons, who will play in the Championship after securing a third consecutive promotion, opened talks with Windass last week following his contract being cancelled by Wednesday amid financial troubles.
The 31-year-old, who scored 13 goals in the Championship, is set to become Wrexham's fifth signing of the summer - following on from the additions of Danny Ward, Ryan Hardie, George Thomason and Liberato Cacace, who has signed in a club-record £2.2 million move from Italian side Empoli.
Windass is poised to undergo a medical before bolstering Wrexham's attack, but he has already had a bit to say about one of his potential strike partners.

In an episode of the Pitch Side podcast, the former Rangers man was asked about how many goals he thinks he would score if he was playing in Manchester City's side with the service given to Erling Haaland.

Windass referred to comments from Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer, saying: "Ollie Palmer said he'd get 20 goals didn't he? It's absolutely delusional of the highest level, no offence to Ollie Palmer."
When host Tom Garratt said, "I reckon you've got a couple in you," - Windass replied, "But I'm miles better than Ollie Palmer. If I was getting 20 goals for Man City every year I'd be playing for Man City".

It was mentioned that Palmer doesn't score 20 for Wrexham, to which Windass said, "You don't even get 15, what is he on about?".
Palmer joined Wrexham from AFC Wimbledon in January 2022 for £300,000, a club-record fee at the time. The 33-year-old, who was handed a Deadpool cameo by Wrexham co-owner Ryan Reynolds, has played his part in the trio of promotions and scored 44 goals in 149 games.

He only found the net on three occasions in 27 appearances in all competitions last term but back in October, he signed a new one-year contract until the end of the 2025/26 season.
