Will Still Tipped for Huge New Job Just Hours After Southampton Sacking

Will Still was sacked by Southampton on Sunday.

Will Still has been tipped to make a swift return to management after being sacked by Southampton.

Following Southampton's relegation from the Premier League, Still, who had spells at French Ligue 1 sides Reims and Lens, was appointed Saints boss in May 2025.

However, after just over five months in charge, Still was sacked on Sunday following a 2-0 defeat by Preston North End.

During his short stint at St. Mary's, Still, 33, had a record of four wins, six draws and six defeats in 16 matches across all competitions, which equates to a win rate of just 25 per cent.

Following the defeat by Preston, Southampton are currently sitting in 21st place in the Championship table, just three points outside of the drop zone.

On Sunday, a statement confirming Still's exit read: "Southampton Football Club can confirm that we have this evening parted ways with Men’s First Team Manager Will Still. Rubén Martinez, Clément Lemaitre and Carl Martin have also left their positions at the club.

"Men’s Under-21s Head Coach Tonda Eckert will take charge of the team on an interim basis."

Group Technical Director Johannes Spors said: "Will is a great person who gave everything to try and improve performances and results.

"Ultimately that process has taken longer than any of us would have liked. By making a change now we believe it gives us the best chance of turning things around this season and climbing back up the league table."

Just hours after being let go by the Saints, Still has been tipped to make a quick return to the dugout.

Taking to social media, talkSPORT host Hugh Woozencroft has urged Scottish giants Celtic to make a move for Still on the back of Brendan Rodgers' resignation.

He wrote: "Will Still will make a very good manager at Championship level. Yes, there were undoubted poor performances but there were also some very good ones, where, had Saints taken their chances - it would have at least given him more time.

"If I'm Celtic, I'm on the phone in the morning."

After Rodgers' exit, 73-year-old Martin O'Neill returned to the club temporarily and has led Celtic to victories over Falkirk and rivals Rangers.

O'Neill is currently the favourite to become the permanent manager, with the likes of Kieran McKenna, Ange Postecoglou, Lee Carsley, Robbie Keane and Nicky Hayen also tipped to make a move to Scotland.
