Fans were left stunned by an X-rated comment made about Wayne Rooney on Sky Sports News.

Back in October, former England and Manchester United forward Rooney was confirmed as Birmingham manager after he left MLS side DC United.

At the time, the decision to remove John Eustace to appoint Rooney did not go down well and the negativity has continued after a dreadful start under the 38-year-old.

Rooney is now under increasing pressure after his side suffered a 3-1 defeat against Stoke City on Tuesday afternoon.

On Wednesday, fans were left stunned by what sounded like an X-rated comment about Rooney on Sky Sports News.

Sky presenter Rob Wotton said: "Lots to come including Wayne Rooney, who admits he'd have subbed his entire Birmingham team off at half-time if he'd had the chance."

However, fans felt the word ‘subbed’ sounded entirely different which gave the quote a whole new meaning.

Reacting on social media, one fan said: “Rooney would've done what now? @SkySportsNews.”

Another tweeted: “Wayne Rooney wanted to do WHAT???”

A third fan added: “Rooney wanted to do what at half time??????”

Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Rooney said: “It's difficult to put into words against [the performance] to be honest. Because over the last three games we've looked really good as a team and today is unrecognisable

“It's frustrating, hard to take because I know we have got good players there, so to put a performance in like we did today is really difficult to explain.”

He continued: “All of it, all of it [was upsetting]. The one bright thing was young Romelle [Donovan], when he came on. I said to the players in there that he's an example. He's young, 17 and he comes on and he's an example to the players. He comes on with character, with attitude and he wants the ball as well, that's the most important thing.

“We lost today because we didn't do the basics right. There was no crazy game plan in how we want to win the game. But what I expect as a coach is the players to do the basics right.”
