BBC panel left stunned by Wayne Rooney's x-rated reaction to World Cup half-time show

Wayne Rooney left Micah Richards, Joe Hart and Gabby Logan at a loss for words after giving his opinion on the World Cup half-time show.

On Sunday night, the 2026 World Cup will come to a close as Argentina and Spain face off in the final at the MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

A cagey first half saw both the reigning champions and the Euro 2024 winners head into the changing rooms with the scoreline sitting at 0-0.

However, in order to keep the excitement of the match alive, FIFA decided to host put together a special half-time performance, similar to those seen at the Super Bowl, that was the first of its kind.

Justin Bieber, Shakira, Burna Boy, Madonna, BTS and even Brazil legends Ronaldo and Ronaldinho all took part in the show, which has caused controversy as it saw FIFA officially break a strict football law.

Following the show, fans and pundits alike have not been shy to share their opinions on the performances, with some enjoying the change while others felt that it was out of place during such an important match.

And it's safe to say that Manchester United and England legend Rooney is part of the latter group, as he didn't hold back when giving his opinion on the show live-on-air as part of the BBC's punditry team.

When asked for their highlights of the performance, Richards and Hart named their favourite artists, but Rooney had other ideas.

"I'll be honest mine was when it finished, I like a lot of those artists but I thought it was c**p," Rooney said.

It just didn't get me going. I want the football to come back on. I like Burna Boy, I like Bieber, I like Shakira. That was flat."

Immediately, Hart, Richards and BBC Presenter Logan were completely stunned by Rooney's brutal assessment, forcing Logan to quickly move things along.

"I tell you what you get on the BBC, honest reviews," she joked.

Gary Neville shares controversial opinion on World Cup half-time show

Overall, it's safe to say that the vast majority of fans didn't enjoy the half-time performance, largely because it delayed the second half by nearly 30 minutes.

But Neville admitted that he was a fan of the show, telling ITV: "I quite enjoyed it, let's hope the second half picks up and there's loads of energy in that."

The half-time show followed the tournament's official closing ceremony that took place ahead of kick-off with Post Malone, Tom Cruise and even IShowSpeed all taking part.
