Conor McGregor puts $100,000 bet on World Cup final after 'some guy on the internet' made score prediction in 2021
Conor McGregor has placed a $100,000 bet on the result of Sunday's World Cup final after "some guy on the internet" predicted in 2021 that Argentina would beat Spain in the showpiece event.
Argentina will look to defend their title at MetLife Stadium, home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets, when they take on European champions Spain.
Lionel Scaloni's side have come from behind on numerous occasions at this summer's tournament, including in their semi-final victory over England, when late goals from Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez secured a 2-1 win.
Spain, meanwhile, got off to a slow start against Cape Verde in their group stage opener but impressive wins over Portugal, Belgium and France have made them slight favourites coming into the final.

Luis de la Fuente's side have a 59.56 percent chance of lifting the trophy in New Jersey, according to stats provider Opta.
However, former two-weight UFC champion Conor McGregor believes underdogs Argentina will come out on top. In fact, he has placed a $100,000 bet on La Albiceleste to secure a 3-2 win in normal time.
Speaking in a video on his Instagram story, McGregor says he was inspired by the X user @actuallyimthe, who predicted in 2021 that Argentina would beat Spain in the 2026 final by that exact scoreline.
"What's up folks, Conor McGregor here with my World Cup final bet. The bet will be Argentina to beat Spain 3-2 within the 90 minutes," he said.
"Why am I doing this? Five years ago, some guy on the internet predicted that Argentina and Spain would be in the World Cup final and that the score would be 3-2. How did this guy know these boys would be in the final? And then they are.
"Let's go. There it is, McGregor's World Cup final bet. Some guy on the internet, bring it home for me, baby. Let's go."
McGregor also posted a screenshot of the 36-1 bet, which will bring home $3.6 million if the result plays out.
Conor McGregor finally shares update on injury suffered at UFC 329
McGregor's much-anticipated comeback fight at UFC 329 ended in an underwhelming 69-second defeat to Max Holloway after his knee buckled in the opening exchanges.
In his post-event press conference, UFC president Dana White claimed McGregor had suffered a suspected anterior cruciate ligament injury.
And on Sunday, the Irishman confirmed a final prognosis.
"It was acl and meniscus," he wrote on X. "It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking.
"I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today’s regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer.
"I am walking without a crutch. I done leg extension machine work the other day to no issue. So I can walk without aid, and activate my quad under resistance. All very positive. I am maximum discipline and have maintained it fully since the bout.
"I wonder was I saved from something worse here. I believe so. I would have attended the after party as “the man” and who knows then. I believe I was saved. Thank you God! On we go, no sad stories."
McGregor added: "Thank you for the support and well wishes everyone, your health is your wealth."
