Wayne Lineker has posted an update on his condition after being rushed to hospital with a condition which left him "unable to walk".

The 63-year-old, the younger brother to England legend and former Match of the Day host Gary, shared a lengthy update on his health.

The O Beach owner, who has housed a host of famous sports stars and celebrities in his club, took to Instagram Stories to reveal that he thought he had caught a case of COVID following boarding a flight from from Mauritius to Dubai.

Struggling to walk and working from his bed, Lineker feared he was having a heart attack and called his daughter, who phoned her mum in a panic.

Taken to hospital in an ambulance, Lineker spent 10 days in intensive care after being diagnosed with pneumonia - a chest infection which makes it incredibly difficult to breathe.

Though he is now "out of the danger zone", he remains in a respiratory ward and expects to have a two-month period of rehabilitation as he still cannot walk.

Writing a statement on Instagram, Lineker explained: "Hello, my beautiful caring friends.. I did not want to announce this because I know how much love I would receive and I always feel extremely guilty not being able to reply to everyone so two weeks ago I caught a flight from Mauritius to Dubai as I needed to be there for the one year anniversary party.

"While I was on that flight, I believe I caught a very bad infection. What I thought at the time was Covid it completely knocked me out and I just wanted to get home.

"I flew home on the Friday and went straight home and rested. 3 am in the morning I work from my bed and could not walk at that time."

"I thought I was having a heart attack so I called my daughter Tia and she was in great despair and called her mum who came round to my house and took me in an ambulance to the hospital where I was diagnosed with chronic pneumonia and admitted to intensive care where I spent 10 days.

"Now have been moved to a respiratory ward It's only now that I have felt confident enough in my recovery that I can let everybody know I have been speaking and having visits from my family and close friends.

"But catching pneumonia at my age is extremely dangerous. I am still in hospital but out of the danger zone and intensive care. I still cannot walk at all and have around two months rehabilitation and physio ahead of me."

Lineker brothers ended feud

The Lineker brothers had a rift which lasted 17 years, with Wayne believing that his failure to connect with Gary's second wife Danielle was a key factor in their relationship becoming estranged.

Wayne had hoped that they would become "proper brothers" again after regularly phone contact and home visits stopped.

But in the summer, the two appeared to bury the hatchet as they were photographed smiling at the wedding of Wayne's daughter Tia, who tied the knot with former footballer Harry Agombar in Ibiza.

Wayne posted a snap and wrote: "Great to see my bro and my nephews at my daughters wedding."
