Trent Alexander-Arnold 'forced to clear up' answer in Real Madrid unveiling as he swiftly backtracks on comment

The moment during Trent Alexander-Arnold's unveiling didn't go unnoticed among Liverpool fans.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was forced to 'clear up' his answer during his Real Madrid unveiling as he angered Liverpool fans.

Alexander-Arnold was formally unveiled as a Real player on Thursday following his transfer from Liverpool.

In his press conference, where he was joined by his family and girlfriend, the 26-year-old stunned the club's board after making his first speech.

After delivering a speech, Alexander-Arnold fielded questions from the assembled media, which included British and Spanish journalists, with the local press already making their feelings clear on the signing.

He put his move to the Spanish giants in context, claiming he has been 'waiting for a long time'.

"Very very exciting for me. A day that I have been waiting for a long time now. Very excited, very happy, very proud to be here," he said.

"It's a dream to be here but there is still a lot of hard work to do and I'm excited to get started straight away.

"It's an exciting time for me."

Alexander-Arnold was later asked what he meant by saying he had been waiting a long time to complete his transfer from Liverpool.

"To clear that up, by waiting a long time I mean a couple of weeks. Not years," the England international replied.

"But I am very excited be here. Whether you support the club or not, you have to respect the trophies that the club win. No matter what, that has been always there for me. I have always admired players and clubs that win trophies."

But the damage had already been done as Liverpool supporters slammed their former player.

One Liverpool fan joked: "First time he’s tracked back in 5 years."

A second said: "Starting to see why he’s barely done any media work for the past 18 months."

A third added: "Not sure what he’s worse at, telling the truth or defending the back post."

Alexander-Arnold could play his first game for his new team when they fly out to the United States for this month's Club World Cup.

They start their campaign on June 18 against Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal.

Real also play Mexican outfit Pachuca and Austrian club RB Salzburg in the group stage phase.
