Thomas Frank targets club-record Tottenham signing after taking over but Man Utd could block it from happening

The former Brentford and current Spurs head coach will likely look to recruit this summer.

New Spurs head coach Thomas Frank may be set to welcome a club-record signing to the club as they fend off interest from Manchester United in their pursuit of a top player.

Frank, 51, was confirmed as the new head coach of Tottenham Hotspur on Thursday (June 12).

“In Thomas, we are appointing one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game,” a club statement read.

“He has a proven track record in player and squad development, and we look forward to him leading the team as we prepare for the season ahead.

“Thomas will be joined from Brentford by Justin Cochrane (First Team Assistant Coach), Chris Haslam (Head of Performance & First Team Assistant Coach) and Joe Newton (First Team Coach Analyst), with Andreas Georgson (First Team Assistant Coach) arriving from Manchester United.”

Reports also emerged that suggest Spurs may look to spend big in this summer’s transfer window following a poor Premier League campaign last season, during which they finished 17th.

Earlier this week, Sky Sports reported that the North London side has stepped up its interest in Antoine Semenyo, currently of Bournemouth.

Semenyo, 25, is also attracting the interest of Manchester United, who share a mutual interest in Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo.

It is thought that the Cherries value the Ghana international at around £65-75m, which could mean Spurs break their current club record of £55m plus £10m in add-ons they paid for striker Dominic Solanke last summer.

The 25-year-old produced 11 goals and five assists in 37 Premier League appearances last term, helping the south coast club to a record-high ninth-place finish.

In his GiveMeSport newsletter, journalist Fabrizio Romano issued an update regarding the player’s future. he wrote: “Semenyo is appreciated, yes, but at the moment it's still early for a negotiation... and Bournemouth will try to keep him.”

Bournemouth have already seen Spain defender Dean Huijsen join Real Madrid for a reported £50m fee, while Serbia-born Hungary left-back Milos Kerkez has been heavily linked with a potential move to Liverpool this summer.

Jaidon Anthony has joined Burnley for £8m, while Kepa Arrizabalaga has returned to his parent club, Chelsea, following the conclusion of his season-long loan spell.
