YouTube personality Angryginge has called out Joey Barton after the former Manchester City and Newcastle midfielder sparked backlash with his thoughts on the Sidemen charity match.

The sell-out game between Sidemen FC and the YouTube All-Stars raised £4,733,004 for a number of different charities, including BBC Children in Need, Bright Side and educational charity M7 Education.

More than than eight million people tuned in from around the world to watch the livestream as the likes of IShowSpeed, KSI, Logan Paul, Mr Beast and Kai Cenat featured in a game that ended 9-9 at full-time.

A dramatic penalty shootout followed and after Sidemen member Miniminter, real name Simon Minter, missed from the spot, the YouTube All-Stars overcome the odds to secure victory.

It was an event that delivered a number of viral moments, including IShowSpeed's first-half penally, which picked up more than 17.2 million views, as well as thousands of comments on Speedy HQ's X account.

One of the few negative comments on social media was posted by former Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton, who didn't hold back in his assessment of the match.

Reacting to the clip of Speed on social media, Barton wrote: "How is Wembley rented out a week before a League Cup Final for the R***** Bowl? F****** embarrassing. Those clowns shouldn’t be anywhere near the hallowed turf. Especially, the big fat f***** in a bandana."

He added: "Game has gone. R*****’s Everywhere you look. Some of the very worse football I’ve ever seen."

A short time later, the Community Notes feature on X responded to Barton's post. It read: "The Sidemen Charity Match, being referred to here, raised almost £5 million for charity, holds the record for largest audience for an online streamed sporting event, and had a capacity 90,000 crowd."

A fan also hit back at Barton for his comments. He replied: "Raised over 4 million, bad take."

The former Manchester City, Newcastle and QPR midfielder responded: "Not the point mate. We have the first major of the season next Sunday. Would the Masters let the goons loose on the golf course and week before the tournament?"

He added: "Could El S****** not have waited until after the final. It’s an insult to Wembley. To Liverpool and Newcastle football clubs and supporters. Wembley should remain special. Not a circus. It insults the League cup. Or whatever fizzy drinks sponsor it has nowadays."

Now, popular streamer Angryginge, real name Morgan Burtwistle, has got involved in the matter by giving his take on the situation.

On his latest livestream on Twitch, the Manchester-born YouTuber said: "He was calling us every name under the sun. At the end of the day, Joey Barton is f***** slagging us all off but when I went to Misfits, his son asked me for a photo."

He added: "I don't think he actually understands social media."
