The Greek media have spoken out after a 'disgraceful' incident involving Scott McTominay led to Scotland winning the first leg of their Nations League clash.

On Thursday, Scotland took a crucial lead in their Nations League play-off clash with Greece as a goal from McTominay means they head into the second leg in Glasgow 1-0 up.

The former Manchester United midfielder calmly put his country ahead in the tie after winning a controversial penalty late in the first half.

And now, various members of the Greek media have had their say on the controversial incident as they give their views on the overall performances in the match.

In the 33rd minute of the exciting match, Scotland were handed the chance to opportunity the lead in the affair after Greek defender Lazaros Rota fouled McTominay within the box, handing a penalty to the visitors.

The penalty was shrouded in controversy as some fans took to social media to demand that UEFA make changes as some Greek supporters were seen shining lasers in McTominay's eyes before he took the penalty, but that didn't stop the 28-year-old from calmly putting his side ahead.

Other fans claimed that the penalty shouldn't have been given as it appeared that the Napoli midfielder appeared to stand on the ball and accidentally initiate the contact himself, but the Greek media don't have an issue with the goal.

Reacting to the match, Greek newspaper To Bhma wrote: "McTominay's well-aimed penalty in the 33rd minute decided the match in favour of the Scots, with Greece dominating the second 45 minutes, even hitting the post with Tzolis in the 68th minute.

"Now, our representative team will be chasing the big upset in Sunday's rematch at Hampden Park."

While another publication praised the Scots for their performance throughout the whole match, adding: "The game was fairly balanced, with both teams not threatening at the start and finding each other on the pitch.

"The Scots had the first good moment with McTominay in the 27th minute scoring from a dribble and finally opened the scoring with the same player in the 33rd minute scoring accurately from the penalty he himself won from Rota.

"Despite the pressure, the Scots played very good defence and held on to a 1-0 lead until the end."

Scotland will welcome Greece to Hampden Park for the second leg of their Nations League clash on Sunday as they look to preserve a place in the top tier of the competition.
