Fans have demanded that UEFA take action after spotting a controversial moment with Scott McTominay during Scotland's Nations League match.

On Thursday evening, the first legs of the Nations League play-offs and quarter-finals got underway in a night of exciting international football.

While England and Wales fans will have to wait until this weekend to watch their country play, Scottish fans were delighted as their side won 1-0 away from home in their match against Greece.

However, the match wasn't without controversy, as fans have taken to social media to call for UEFA to take immediate action after spotting an 'disgraceful' moment involving Scott McTominay.

Late in the first half, Scotland were given the chance to take the lead after Greek defender Lazaros Rota fouled Scott McTominay within the box, handing a penalty to the visitors.

Having won the penalty, the former Manchester United star stepped forward to take it himself, calmly found finding the back of the net and putting his side ahead in the tie.

However, some fans were not happy with the moment, as they noticed that home fans tried to put the midfielder off by shining bright lasers in his eyes before he took the penalty.

Reacting to the incident, one fan asked: "Was just me or did anyone else see the green laser lights on McTominay's body and face before he took the penalty? Disgraceful if it was the case, UEFA need to intervene."

Another added: "Scott McTominay was the epitome of cool in slotting away that penalty with a laser shining full on in his face. Dirty tricks from the Greece fans."

While one joked: "Get it right up ye, laser pointing gits!"

BBC pundit Steven Naismith also commented on the incident, saying: "The laser pens are brought out frequently there too so Scotty was probably used to it."

The penalty itself was already controversial as replays appeared to show that the Napoli midfielder appeared to stand on the ball and accidentally initiate the contact himself, but it was enough to put the The Tartan Army ahead in the two-legged tie.

Scotland will welcome Greece to Hampden Park for the second leg of their Nations League clash on Sunday as they look to preserve a place in the top tier of the competition.
