The eye-watering amount of money Saudi Pro League clubs have spent revealed, it's more than La Liga

Clubs haven't spent as much as you may think.

The huge amount of money that Saudi Pro League clubs have already spent this summer has been revealed - and it is more than La Liga.

The division has created headlines for its lavish spending this summer, particularly when it comes to wages.

But their willingness to offer huge fees hasn't gone unnoticed either - especially after their world-record bid of €300 million was accepted by PSG for Kylian Mbappe.

Former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson received what was reported as a 'life-changing offer' from Al Ettifaq, and subsequent claims suggest he is earning close to £700,000 per week at the club.

The likes of Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante and Roberto Firmino have also joined Cristiano Ronaldo in the Saudi Pro League, with all three players agreeing to big-money deals.

Transfermarkt have now revealed the exact amount of spending from Saudi top division clubs, and while it puts the figures somewhat into perspective compared to other top leagues, the league has still spent more than La Liga.

Saudi Pro League spending revealed

Transfermarkt have revealed that the Saudi Pro League has spent €300.6 million (around £258 million) already this summer.

As a result, if the Mbappe deal had not rejected a move to Al Hilal, his transfer fee would have more than doubled the league's overall spending.

The figures put the Saudi Pro League in fourth place on the list of big-spending leagues, with the Premier League (€1.34 billion), Serie A (€520.9 million) and Bundesliga (€448.2 million) all ahead.

La Liga is behind them in fifth, with the division's 20 clubs having spent €249.8 million so far this summer.

Interesting, over half of that figure is made up by Real Madrid. Their signing of Jude Bellingham for a fee of €103 million largely makes up this number, although Los Blancos also paid €20 million to sign fellow midfield wonderkid Arda Guler from Fenerbahce.

But while Real may not do any more major business this summer - if you believe claims that they have already agreed a deal with Mbappe to join as a free agent next year - you can expect Saudi Pro League spending to continue.

Al Nassr are in talks with Bayern Munich over the transfer of Sadio Mane, with 90min reporting that player and club have already agreed on personal terms.
