Ryan Reynolds has been linked with a £300 million takeover of another football club after his success at Wrexham.

Reynolds, together with Rob McElhenney, took over the Red Dragons in 2021 when they were in the National League.

The pair have transformed the club and the local area surroundings its Racecourse Ground stadium, and they sit third in League One under the management of Phil Parkinson.

Plans are underway to re-develop the stadium's Kop Stand and increase the total ground capacity of 5,500 in time for what they hope will be Championship football being played in Wrexham.

Perhaps their biggest achievement has been in raising the club's profile to the point where it is recognisable worldwide, as such providing crucial revenue streams - such as minority investment - that means the club isn't solely dependent on its on-pitch success.

Now, Reynolds has been linked with taking over a second football club.

Major League Soccer side Vancouver Whitecaps are looking for a buyer after the club's current ownership announced it had initiated a sales process.

They have retained Goldman Sachs to advise on the sale process and the transition to their future ownership. The 2025 MLS season gets underway on February 22.

Reynolds was born in Vancouver, and as such has been mentioned in talk of a potential takeover, despite the lack of any official connection as yet - even by the club's own social media account.

In December, they posted: "We have an idea where you could put your powers for good."

One potential factor that might cause Reynolds to get involved would be that the Whitecaps could be relocated if an agreement is released to sell the club.

They are one of only three Canadian franchises currently playing in the MLS, with the other two being Toronto FC and CF Montreal (formerly Montreal Impact).

The Whitecaps also hosted Wrexham, Reynolds and McElhenney for a pre-season friendly at their BC Place stadium during pre-season last summer.

In an Instagram post, he wrote: "Every single Wrexham player mentioned how beautiful Vancouver is. It is the highest compliment anyone could give me.

"Walking into BC Place Stadium to see my guys play the Whitecaps was a level of surreal I'll never fully process.

"Ending up in my hometown for a few days, seeing family and friends was the best medicine on earth."
