Ruben Amorim could soon return to management just days after his Manchester United sacking.
Amorim, 40, was sacked by United on Monday (January 5) and left the club in sixth position, having guided the Red Devils to a record low 15th position in the Premier League last season.
The Portuguese exited Old Trafford after a reported fallout with the club’s hierarchy. The dispute was related to transfers and Amorim’s favoured 3-4-2-1 formation.
The 40-year-old reportedly saw his contract paid up in full following his departure, meaning he received around £9.25 million as a result of him being contracted to United until June of 2027.

And despite receiving a hefty amount, the Portuguese is now linked with an almost instant return to the dugout at a huge European club, but this depends on the future of another well-known head coach.

According to talkSPORT, current Benfica head coach Jose Mourinho is under pressure at the Estadio da Luz, with Amorim a strong contender to replace him.
Mourinho signed a two-year deal at the club in September and has since led the side to 14 victories from 22 matches.
However, the former Chelsea boss reportedly has a clause in his contract that would allow him to leave in the summer.
A previous report from The Guardian revealed that the “clause would allow the club or Mourinho to end his deal in the 10 days after their final game of this campaign”.
Benfica currently sit third in the Liga Portugal but trail league leaders Porto by ten points after 17 fixtures.
Of course, Amorim already has a connection with the club despite recently managing rivals Sporting CP, as he played for Benfica for nine years between 2008 and 2017, making 154 appearances for the side.

The 40-year-old, despite failing at United, has a proven track record in his homeland and guided Sporting to two Primeira Liga titles and two Taca da Liga crowns during his four-year tenure as head coach.
Joao Noronha Lopes, who was then a candidate to become Benfica’s president, even claimed Amorim would become the club’s coach “one day” back in September.
Amorim has also maintained that Benfica are “still my club” despite managing arch rivals Sporting.
