Xabi Alonso has reportedly made a big decision at Real Madrid, which could impact Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Last month, after weeks of speculation, it was confirmed that former Liverpool and Madrid man Alonso will become the new boss of Los Blancos.

Speaking to the club's official website, Alonso said: "Madridistas, I'm delighted to see you again, and to be back at the club.

"The bond has always been there, but now from the inside I'm very excited and energised so that we can all be proud of the team, enjoy ourselves, and celebrate great things. Hala Madrid!"

Alonso already has two new additions in his squad, in the shape of Dean Huijsen and Alexander-Arnold.

Now, it has been claimed that Alonso has made a big decision ahead of his first season in charge of Madrid.

As reported by Spanish news outlet MARCA, Alonso is leaning towards playing a 4-3-3 formation, which will be a big switch from his usual 3-4-2-1 that he used at Bayer Leverkusen.

The report stated: "The former Liverpool and Bayern Munich midfielder, among other teams, has the idea of shifting toward a 4-3-3 formation.

"It won't be his team's only way of playing, but it will be the starting point."

This will for sure have an impact on Alexander-Arnold, as he will be used to playing in a 4-3-3 due to the likes of Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot using the same formation at Liverpool.

As a result, it is expected to help Alexander-Arnold settle into his new surroundings by not having to learn how to play as a potential wing-back in a 3-4-2-1 formation.

Last week, the transfer of Alexander-Arnold was officially confirmed.

A statement read: "Real Madrid C. F. and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement by which Trent Alexander-Arnold is linked to our club for the next six seasons, from June 1, 2025 to June 30, 2031.

"Alexander-Arnold will play with Real Madrid the Club World Cup to be held in the United States from June 14."
