Newcastle United could land an enormous €109.7million (£94.31million) should they make one key sale that would ease Financial Fair Play issues.

Newcastle have been hit by a succession of long-term injuries this season, with Joelinton the latest to have been ruled out after suffering a quad issue in the club’s FA Cup victory over Sunderland.

And while the Magpies would have looked to utilise the transfer window to fill the gaps left by those absentees, they announced pre-tax losses of £73million for 2022/23 and are hamstrung in the market.

The Premier League’s FFP rules dictate any club can only lose a maximum of £105million over any rolling three-year period. Newcastle's results from last season alone already make up almost 70 per cent of that tally.

Newcastle CEO Dan Eales suggested the club may have to sell some star players to balance the books.

Asked directly whether Alexander Isak, Sven Botman or Bruno Guimaraes could be sold, Eales said via Sky Sports: "On any player, at any time, it depends on circumstances. It's difficult to hypothesis but, if we're offered £1billion for one of those players, then no one could argue against that making sense.

"Any decision we make will always be against the backdrop of the medium to long-term benefit for the club. It's difficult to say specifically on certain players, but I can say that, if we're going to get to where we want to get to, at times it is necessary to trade your players.

"Whether that is because of the contract length of the player in question, the offer is too good to refuse, you need to reload in certain areas, but all of this could make sense to trade that player. It is counter-intuitive and part of the inherent system of PSR that there is an incentive to trade your players if you want to re-invest, by the nature of the boundaries."

According to the CIES Football Observatory statistical model, should Newcastle sell Guimaraes for market value they could generate some €109.7million (£94.31million), which would go a long way to selling the financial issues.

Furthermore, in Isak, the club have an asset worth €102.7million (£88.27million) while Anthony Gordon is their third most valuable player €71.3million (£61.28million).
