Wolves supporters were left stunned by what Matheus Cunha posted to his Instagram story on Saturday.

Cunha, 25, had an eventful afternoon during Wolves’ FA Cup fifth round tie against Bournemouth at the Vitality.

The Cherries took the lead thanks to Evanilson in the 30th minute before Cunha levelled the scores on the hour mark with a sumptuous strike.

The game then drifted into extra time before Cunha was given his marching orders by referee Sam Barrott on 119 minutes.

The 25-year-old squared up to Milos Kerkez after a coming together before he kicked out and head-butted his opponent.

And things went from bad to worse for the away side when they lost 5-4 on penalties, meaning they dropped out of this year’s competition.

Later in the evening, the FA Cup’s official Instagram account posted a photograph of Cunha with the caption ‘Matheus Cunha on my mind’ and a video of his stunning strike, both of which the Brazil international shared to his own story.

But this has not gone down well with several fans of the club despite Cunha posting a third story which read: "In the end another game where you guys did your best. I couldn't lose my head at the end. Sorry."

One supporter said: "This fan base has an opinion and I’ve been saying now for weeks something isn’t right with his attitude. He didn’t care because he carried on his tantrum all down the tunnel and then has the cheek to go on social media."

Another added: "I don’t want to see him in a Wolves shirt again he’s an absolute disgrace! He’s had an attitude for a few games now well if he wants to go then let him."

A third explained: "Mate he's a human being people make mistakes leave it out he knew he made a mistake when he was walking down the tunnel. This fanbase isn't half irritating sometimes."

While a fourth commented: "Where do you think we would be without him? Gifted players often operate on the edge. He has given us much much more than he's lost us. Give the man some slack."

Wolves head coach Vitor Pereira gave his thoughts on the incident after the match.

“Don’t ask me about it because I was looking at the other side," said Pereira. "In the end the referee decided the red card.

“Of course the red card is one less player, one less specialist in penalties and the next games without a player that is important for us, but in the end we will start the next game against Everton with 11 and this is the most important for me."

There is an argument that Cunha would've taken a penalty during the shoot out which could, in theory, have influenced the result but it was Andoni Iraola's side that progressed to the last eight.
