Manchester United are reportedly set to receive a helpful cash injection ahead of the January transfer window.

Ruben Amorim’s Man United side could not build on their Boxing Day (December 26) victory over Newcastle United with a win against relegation-threatened Wolves on Tuesday (December 30).

Joshua Zirkzee put the Red Devils ahead on 27 minutes, but Rob Edwards’ side, who have yet to win a Premier League game in 19 attempts, struck back thanks to Ladislav Krejci’s header on 45 minutes.

The second half was thoroughly entertaining with both sides creating opportunities.

On 90 minutes, Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa parried Benjamin Sesko’s shot towards Patrick Dorgu, who finished into the roof of the net to the delight of most inside Old Trafford.

But as the Dane wheeled away in celebration, the goal was chalked off for an offside during the build meaning both sides had to settle for a point.

United are now sixth while Wolves remain bottom, 14 points from safety at the halfway point of the 2025/26 campaign.

Amorim and United’s recruitment team may now look towards the upcoming January transfer window as a period during which they can add to their squad and consolidate their place in the European spots.

United signed Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, Diego Leon, Sesko, and Senne Lammens for a combined £170.7 million in the summer, while several players, including Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund, and Antony, left either on loan or permanently.

And while the futures of Rashford and Sancho, who are on loan at Barcelona and Aston Villa respectively, are uncertain, Hojlund may be nearing a permanent exit, having enjoyed the first half of the season at Serie A side Napoli.

The Denmark international has scored seven goals and registered three assists in 19 appearances for the Campania side that currently sit two points off the top of Serie A.

Hojlund, who is contracted to United until June 2028, appears to be close to joining Napoli on a permanent basis, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano explained: “Napoli [have] confirmed that they believe the obligation to buy Rasmus Hojlund will be just a formality. It will happen in 2026. Napoli believes that in the summer transfer window, they will trigger the obligation to buy Rasmus Hojlund. It’s going to be worth €44 million plus €6 million [add-ons].”

Romano also suggested the latter amount was already paid by Napoli to get the initial loan deal over the line last summer.

He concluded by saying United will receive a total of €50 million (£43.6 million) from the sale of Hojlund, meaning they could invest in players in 2026.

Hojlund joined United from Atalanta for an initial £64 million plus £8 million in add-ons in 2023, but failed to make a positive impact at Old Trafford.
