Jose Mourinho's damning comments about Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford re-emerge

Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho's damning comments about Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have re-emerged.

Comments made six years ago by former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho about two players still at the club have re-emerged.

Mourinho's two-and-a-half-year spell at United was largely successful with the club lifting two major trophies and finishing second in 2018.

The latter achievement the 'special one' went on to describe as one of his best ever given the quality in his squad at the time.

He remains arguably United's most successful manager since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson, with the club continuing to struggle under current manager Erik ten Hag.

A handful of players that played under Mourinho during his spell at Old Trafford remain, and damning comments about two of them have recently re-emerged.

Both Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford looked visibly frustrated during the Red Devils' recent 1-0 defeat against Newcastle United and have come under criticism for their recent performances.

It comes six years after Mourinho's outburst following a 1-0 defeat to Brighton.

In a video posted on X, he said: "People always ask me: 'Why always Lukaku?' you know why now."

He was referring to the choice to play both Martial and Rashford in that game with both players producing a disjointed display.

Neither Romelu Lukaku or Alexis Sanchez, who were the preferred choices at the time, were fit to play. He questioned their commitment at the time with United desperately needing points to secure a top-two finish in the league.

Fast forward to today, and both Martial and Rashford remain part of the set-up at Old Trafford.

Whilst they have both shown glimpses of greatness since the days of Mourinho, it hasn't been on a consistent basis and fans are starting to get fed up of players constantly getting second chances even after failing to perform.

Fans reacted to the re-emergence video on social media with one saying: "As usual Jose was way ahead of the curve. He should have been backed."

"I remember this interview. Martial and Rashford were missing so many chances that game," another said.
