Man Utd already have their own Viktor Gyokeres and it could save Ruben Amorim millions

Man Utd already have their own Viktor Gyokeres and it could save Ruben Amorim millions

Some fans are convinced that Amorim already has an in-house solution.

Manchester United fans have already spotted an alternative to Viktor Gyokeres that is already at the club amid transfer links to the Sporting Lisbon striker.

Gyokeres has already smashed in 23 goals in all competitions for Sporting this season, including a hat-trick in their 4-1 win over Manchester City in the Champions League on Tuesday.

The Swede made it seven goals in four days, having smashed in four goals in a 5-1 victory over Estrela in Liga Portugal on the previous Friday evening.

Given Amorim's appointment as Manchester United manager, with his employment due to begin on November 11, was officially announced earlier that day, Gyokeres' goal exploits certainly got fans talking.

He is reportedly rated at around £80 million which, given how close United currently are to Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits, may be a deal they need to pursue in the summer if they opt to attempt to sign him.

And Amorim himself indicated in his post-match press conference following the City win that, while he expects the 24-year-old to stay in Portugal until the end of the season, he could not guarantee his future beyond then.

The Portuguese boss plays a fluid 3-4-3 system, and it is one that Gyokeres would slot perfectly into at Old Trafford if he makes the move.

But some United fans believe that he possesses some similar qualities to Rasmus Hojlund - albeit to differing degrees - and that Amorim could help the Danish striker fulfil his potential.

Hojlund showed flashes of brilliance during last season, and became the youngest player ever to score in six consecutive Premier League games.

He tallied 16 goals in all competitions, but his campaign was plagued with inconsistency and he then suffered an injury during the most recent pre-season that he has only recently recovered from.

At 21 years of age, the striker still has plenty of time to develop and has already shown what potential he could have if he can get back on the right path.

And under Amorim, he will hope to get back on track quickly and stake his claim to be United's leading centre forward - even with the possibility of Gyokeres being signed looming over him.

On Twitter, one United fan wrote: "Viktor Gyokeres is the outlet that makes everything stick. Gets the ball and carries it forward. Powerful strides and so hard to stop inside the box. Hopefully Amorim turns Hojlund into a similar mould. He has the tools for it."

Another said: "I'm so excited to see what Amorim can do with Hojlund. I'm seeing improvement in his game and we look so much better with him than without."

A third stated: "People really don't realise that Hojlund is basically Gyokeres with seven years less experience. That role under Amorim is perfect for him."

And a fourth wrote: "If Manchester United players believe and accept the system of Ruben Amorim, many of them could benefit greatly from it. Hojlund being one of them. The way the [system] makes Gyokeres run is what Hojlund needs."
