An update on Michael Carrick's future at Manchester United has emerged as he continues to impress in his role as interim head coach.
Carrick, who was appointed as Ruben Amorim's replacement in January on a deal until the end of the season, was tasked with overseeing United's remaining 17 Premier League fixtures alongside Steve Holland, Jonathan Woodgate, Travis Binnion and Jonny Evans.
So far, the former midfielder and his backroom staff have led United to four wins out of five, an unbeaten run that has included victories over Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Spurs.
Earlier this month, Carrick dropped the clearest hint yet that he is keen to stay at Old Trafford beyond the end of the 2025-26 campaign.

Asked about how involved he would be in United's summer plans, the 44-year-old said: "Nothing's changed, to be honest. I'm fully aware of the role I'm doing here and the responsibility I've got."

Carrick continued: "We want to be successful, and I want the club to be successful beyond the end of the season - if that's me, if that's somebody else. I'm loving what I'm doing. I'm here."
Some have tipped the 44-year-old to get the job permanently, but despite his impressive start to life in the hot seat, those behind the scenes at Old Trafford will not accelerate their plans to appoint a new head coach.
That's according to a report from Sky Sports, which claims Carrick is still not the favourite to be their next long-term boss.
United are also expected to wait until the end of the season before progressing with an appointment, with the previously mentioned publication suggesting the club have not yet spoken to any candidates.
However, a report from The Manchester Evening News has claimed Thomas Tuchel is emerging as the preferred choice.

Tuchel, who recently signed an extension to his England contract that will keep him in charge until after Euro 2028, is seen as a manager with a proven record and someone who can challenge for titles.
Back in 2024, Tuchel is said to have held a so-called 'secret meeting' with United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe in Monaco.
